The Prague Center for Transatlantic Relations, CEVRO University and the Aspen Institute Central Europe cordially invite you to a discussion with Stephan Kieninger, author of the newly published book Securing Peace in Europe: Strobe Talbott, NATO, and Russia after the Cold War.
The debate will take place on Thursday, November 27, 2025, at 18:00 at CEVRO University (Jungmannova 28/17, Prague 1).
The event will be moderated by Jan Jireš, Senior Fellow at the Prague Center for Transatlantic Relations, CEVRO University and Tomáš Klvaňa, Executive Director of the Aspen Institute Central Europe. The discussion will be held in English.

In his book, Stephan Kieninger revisits the 1990s, drawing on a range of previously unused sources to analyze U.S. policy toward Europe and Russia, which culminated in the decision to expand NATO to include the first countries of the former Eastern Bloc. Kieninger presents U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Strobe Talbott as the central figure through whom he portrays President Clinton’s foreign policy.

Stephan Kieninger is a Non-Resident Fellow at the American-German Institute. He holds a PhD in Modern History from Mannheim University. He previously worked at the Wilson Center, Johns Hopkins SAIS, Berlin Center for Cold War Studies, and Federal German Archives. He is the author of three books on U.S. foreign policy and European security in the Cold War and after.
