How to Proceed in the Czech Energy Sector; Inevitable and Systemic Changes for the Future of the Czech Republic

Another in the series of closed PCTR expert debates, which focused on the key challenges facing the Czech energy industry, took place on March 30. The main theme was the current situation in connection with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the subsequent sanctions of Western countries and the readiness for a possible suspension or reduction of gas supplies, the affordability of energy or the future of the Green Deal. Tomáš Pojar and Alexandr Vondra started the discussion with current information from the European Council and the European Parliament.

Jiří Feist and Vladimír Schmalz gave an introductory presentation on the inevitable changes and necessary systemic steps that the Czech Republic must implement in the upcoming years. Jaroslav Míl proposed the set of specific measures. The Minister of Industry Jozef Síkela and the Minister of Finance Zbyněk Stanjura also took part in the subsequent discussion.

The PCTR’s regular discussion was attended by thirty experts from the Ministry of Industry, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and key government agencies, alongside with senior executives from private energy companies and energy consulting companies.
