The objective of this closed meeting was to discuss the current security and geopolitical situation in Sinai and the status of the Egypt-Israel peace agreement. Ambassador Beecroft and other guests focused on the importance of the MFO’s role in Sinai, its history, role, mode of operation and funding, and its contribution to Israel-Egypt relations as well as the international community. The debate took place under the Chatham House Rule. The round table was moderated by Veronika Kuchyňová-Šmigolová, the former Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Egypt, currently Junior Deputy Minister and Director of the Department of American States at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Ambassador R. Stephen Beecroft currently serves as MFO Director. In 2014-2017 he served as US Ambassador to Egypt. As a senior career diplomat, he also served in other positions in the region – as US Ambassador to Iraq (2012-2014) and Jordan (2008-2011).
