Mark Galeotti’s Forged in War is a masterful journey through the history of Moscow and Russia from its beginnings to the present day, concentrating on the way how the war shaped Russia’s identity, mentality and its institutions.

Mark Galeotti is a British historian and security expert specializing on Russia. He has published extensively on Russian past and presence. His most recent publications include Putin’s Wars: From Chechenya to Ukraine (2022), The Weaponisation of Everything: A Field Guide to the New Way of War (2022) and Forged in War (2024).
